Purgeatory Soundtrack is out!!! These are all the current tracks in the game, and a few extras. On all streaming platforms in addition to youtube.
I will say though, this is the first time the automatic DistroKid mastering has actually like, sounded good??? I didn't use it of course, I don't have that kind of cash lying around. But having heard both, oh my god. This was definitely pretty muddy at times.
Some of my personal favorite moments are definitely Rat Race, just because it is such a different sound from the rest and captures that rebellious energy I want. Remains is also a favorite, it's one of the first I made. And the last thing I made, Distorted Reflection. That one is quite out of place honestly. It was made to be the background music in a little not-so-hidden bunker with some lore implications, and I went absolutely bonkers. I envisioned unconvering secrets in this in-between world of memories and despair, questioning reality but finding out the nature of it. So it became a 9 minute piece that goes ambient half-way through. In the actual game, you maybe go in there for 30 seconds to a minute to grab a gun and item, so you don't get much of it.
I am very proud, however, to have actually gotten it out on streaming platforms. Definitely the most work in a single project I've done so far. My others have been pretty spur-of-the-moment. The first EP was a compilation of similar sounding pre-existing projects with a little cleaning in about a week, and the album is a short 1-month vomit of passion and ideas. This one, however, has been in the works on and off for about a year as inspiration or need came for the game, with almost constant revision on some songs. I'm more proud of some than others, and it has its issues, but I usually have trouble committing to a concept with this much follow through. It helps a LOT to have someone else involved and a purpose for it, rather than only being accountable to myself and being able to change direction with no friction. I am still sitting on piles and piles of songs without being fully realized, so there's no shortage of material. Just commitment. And skill, I suppose.
I don't want to commit to another project just yet, so no roadmap right now. I've still been doing some writing, as usual. Time will tell if it sees the light of day. Big Title Fight and Julie inspiration.
I want this to become another blog-type thing in the future, but for now enjoy these embedded videos and here's a bandcamp link
